Bakwena recently hosted a celebratory event in Zeerust to recognize and applaud road users who are the pioneering discount cardholders since the establishment of this programme in 2002. The pioneers who signed up for the discounts from inception (2002) have been utilizing their discount cards ever since and have motivated other community members to do the same, which has led to the initiative expanding greatly.

In an effort to show our appreciation for their support, Bakwena invited the pioneers - which consisted of the first three people who applied for discounts from the Swartruggens, Groot Marico and Zeerust areas respectively - to a special event where a gift was handed over as a token of our gratitude. We hope the ceremony will incentivize others to sign up, as the discount structure is there to benefit local residents.

Bakwena is involved in numerous community projects throughout the year so when it came to doing our “67” Minutes for Mandela Day we just continued to do what we do best.

This is the second year that Bakwena has taken part in the Winter Blanket Drive by purchasing bales of blankets and collecting food for delivery to needy animal organizations close to our route. The four recipients we delivered to were Woodrock, HAWS, Tshwane SPCA and Animal Ambulance.

Bakwena also sponsored caps and paint to the community members of Hammanskraal to assist them with their “67” minutes which included the renovating of an Old Age Home and also included something warm to drink to brave the chill.
