Sleep on the beach at Kwass se Baai campsite, Namaqua National Park!

On-a-budget Thrill

For die-hard campers who love nothing but the basics, this coastal camping site is set within an area that’s still almost completely untouched – it’s the purest form of the West Coast, right next to the ocean. The reserve is near Kamieskroon, and is proof the Northern Cape is not just for spring visits. It’s also Getaway magazine’s top camping spot recommendation in the province.

You’ll probably spot antelope, ostriches and the Namaqua speckled padloper, the smallest tortoise on Earth! There are walled long drops and fireplaces, but nothing else – not even drinking water. It’s best to book all four sites for you and your friends (which is very doable at the affordable rates!)

PRICES: from *R147 for 2 people and R65 for each additional person, and a daily conservation fee of R41 per person over 12 years of age, and R21 per child between the ages of 2 and 11. There's no electricity or water.

To book or for more information, visit www.sanparks.org, email reservations@sanparks.org or call 027 672 1948 or 012 428 9111.
