In 2010, Joy de Witt contacted CHOC to arrange a walk up Sani Pass to raise funds for CHOC. For the 1st year 40 walkers registered. T shirts were printed and an amount was raised. The experience of connecting with nature on a mountain is very emotional.
One of the 1st walkers was a little boy by the name of Sayurin Archary. He was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma of the kidney. His dad carried him on his shoulder. In 2011, Sayurin passed away. Our 2011 SANI walk was in memory of this brave soul. Ever since then his parents do the walk annually as a pilgrimage to a precious soul.
Since 2010, the CHOC WALK TO SANI PASS has become legendary and people look forward to this time to reflect and to get in touch with nature. Since then we have walked in honour of many people who have lost their battle to cancer.
In 2010, Joy de Witt contacted CHOC to arrange a walk up Sani Pass to raise funds for CHOC.
We now have about 600 walkers, walking at their own pace or competitively up and down the mountain. Every cent raised is raised for CHOC.
The next walk is on 12th August 2017.
Our sincere thank you goes out to all the supporters of CHOC and Joy and Glenn de Witt for organizing this event.
